I decided to jump in my car after our Thanksgiving was done to see how many insane people were out shopping and not enjoying quality time with their families and loved ones. It was 5pm when I headed out and a very cold 36 degrees. That did not seem to stop anyone from standing in ridiculously long lines.
I understand that everyone LOVES a good deal. But almost no deal is worth fighting hundreds of irrational people to get into a store early to save a few bucks. I think it is stupid and I hate “Black Friday”.
But if the crowds that were out tonight are any indication, A LOT of people COMPLETELY disagree with me and really love “Black Friday”. There were thousands and thousands of people I saw standing in line waiting for stores to open early for the annual “Black Friday” deals. It was complete madness.
At Toys R Us which opened at 5pm on Thanksgiving day there were over 300 people waiting in line when the store opened. Some had been waiting in line since 12 noon. Basically these people decided to NOT celebrate Thanksgiving with their families and instead stand outside in 38 degree weather for 5 hours. At Toys R Us there were large guards manning the front doors letting in small controlled groups based on the amount of people leaving at the same time. Some people actually cheered when they left the store clutching tightly their precious bags of items they had snagged at discounted prices. Is any of this worth it?
The lines were not only at stores you would traditionally expect like Best Buy, Walmart, Target and others. I saw lines …. EVERYWHERE. Shoe Carnival had over 100 people waiting for the doors to open. Old Navy next door OVER 300 people that I could see waiting outside in the cold when they finally opened. They actually CHEERED when the store employees unlocked the door to start the sale. There were lines of people in front of every single store.
Haven’t we gotten smart to this promotional and emotional scam yet. Almost all of the same “deals” will be available online in the coming weeks during the countless holiday “web sales” in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Personally I WILL NOT leave my home any more to fight large crowds of unfriendly holiday shoppers.
What about you? Are you shopping more online OR will you go out at 4am to save $50 at Walmart on Black Friday?

The only way to avoid becoming like Christian Bale in American Psycho and singing Hip To Be Square by Huey Lewis and the News all day long is to regurgitate the passion and sometimes madness that boils inside me. I am no better then you. I am no different then you. I am a Normal Guy just trying to fight my way through today and make it to tomorrow.....
Jan 19, 2015 0Summary: This watch is what I refer to as a concept watch. I use that term to describe the watch as you would use the terms dress, sport, or diver. I think it is a very exclusive category and there are not that many watches that fall into the category of concept. I’m undecided if […]
Mar 29, 2015 0Indiana is in the middle of a well deserved firestorm this week for their incredibly shitty Senate Bill 101, otherwise known as the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and otherwise known as the “Turn Away The Gays” bill. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, who must realize he is basically...
