I always make my vacation travel plans well in advance. I do this for several reasons. First, that is normally when seats are available if you are using frequent flyer miles. Secondly you can get the seats you want on the flights you want. I recently scheduled our April trip to Phoenix, AZ. My wife is a teacher and that is the best time for us to go, during spring break. The weather is great at that time of the year. 85-90 everyday, no rain, no humidity, and cool nights. United offered return flights at 6am, 10:25am and 10:59pm. I booked us on the 10:25am return flight. No need to get up too early to head to the airport, but still arriving back in NJ early enough in the day to get home at a reasonable hour.
Yesterday, I get an e-mail telling me that the 10:25am flight has been cancelled and that they rebooked me on the 6:am flight. That flight sucks. I would have to get up at 3am to head to the airport by 4am. Just an awful time to travel. I called customer service and they were very apologetic, but they couldn’t do anything to help me, except to reroute me on one of the the many connecting flights. If you do not know, those are flights from hell. They take all day with the lay overs in either Houston or Chicago or Denver. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but again there really was nothing they could do for me. I wanted them to understand that the purpose of making a reservation is so you get to travel on the flights at the times you want. If they cancel flights that blows up the entire reservation process. They directed me tothe complaint form on the web site. We all know where that ends up, the circular file.
In the future I will look for flights on other airlines. Southwest files non-stop to Phoenix from Newark and there are US Air non-stops out of Philly. I have no trouble going in and out of Philly. So now United has pissed off a loyal customer. They offered me nothing as compensation for my inconvenience. That might have been enough to make me feel that they at least cared and heard my complaint.
Well, now I will be bidding out my travel dollars to the airline that offers me the one thing I need. Simple advance reservations. You think that was something they hould know how to do.
What is normal? I wish I knew. I am on a never ending journey to find the true meaning of normal. I seek it at home, at work, and at play. The world seems to be a weird and strange place, with abnormal as the new normal. But here, we set the rules. We determine what is and isn't normal. We can add our 2-cents on any or every topic. Come join us on our journey. We can have a lot of fun looking at the world differently.
Jan 19, 2015 0Summary: This watch is what I refer to as a concept watch. I use that term to describe the watch as you would use the terms dress, sport, or diver. I think it is a very exclusive category and there are not that many watches that fall into the category of concept. I’m undecided if […]
Mar 29, 2015 0Indiana is in the middle of a well deserved firestorm this week for their incredibly shitty Senate Bill 101, otherwise known as the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and otherwise known as the “Turn Away The Gays” bill. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, who must realize he is basically...
